CREATE BALANCE,PROPORTION, AND SYMMETRY TO YOUR FACE WITH A RHINOPLASTY

The nose is your central facial feature, and therefore it is understandable that you want it to add harmony and balance to the rest of your face. Many patients come in to see Dr. Mordkovich concerned that their eyes appear larger or closer together or that their lips look thinner because of their nose. The nose is not an easily hidden feature, which is why so many people around the world look to plastic surgery procedures that can change the overall aesthetic of the nose. Rhinoplasty can modify the shape, size and symmetry of the nose while improving functional aspects so that you can breathe easily without obstruction caused by structural deformities.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A CONSULTATION

Dr. Mordkovich will listen to all of your concerns at your initial consultation to determine whether rhinoplasty will provide the results you want. He will also ask you to bring in photos of noses you find aesthetically pleasing, to give him an idea of what your cosmetic goals entail. Cross Hudson Plastic Surgery also utilizes the innovative Crisalix 3D plastic surgery simulation software to give you a personalized image of the specific changes you might expect from your rhinoplasty.

Understand that just as no two noses are precisely the same, no two rhinoplasties are performed the same way. Dr. Mordkovich will tailor your surgery to your exact facial proportions and desired outcome so your nose, like the restof your features, is unique to you.

    Disproportionately long nose

Injury to the septum or other structures
    Wide or asymmetrical nostrils
Breathing problems caused by obstructed nasal passages

TYPES OF RHINOPLASTY'S

There are two approaches to rhinoplasty that will be discussed with you before surgery. Dr. Morkovich explains each technique at the initial meeting and will recommend one or the other based on your specific needs. Understand that just as no two noses are precisely the same, no two rhinoplasties are performed the same way. Dr. Mordkovich will tailor your surgery to your exact facial proportions and desired outcome so your nose, like the rest of your features, is unique to you.

  • Open Rhinoplasty: Open rhinoplasty is one of the most common ways to perform this surgery and involves incisions within the nasal cavity and at the base of the nasal septum, between the nostrils. Once these incisions are made, the skin is pulled back, and nasal cartilage and bone are exposed. This technique allows for additional access to the nasal structure and is usually recommended when more extensive correction is required. The small incision located on the underside of the nose leaves little visible scarring afterward.

  • Closed Rhinoplasty: Closed rhinoplasty eliminates the third incision at the septum and is performed entirely within the nasal cavity. Cartilage and bone are accessed in the same way using this technique but on a smaller scale. While access is somewhat limited, this technique may offer the benefit of less swelling and downtime. There is no visible scarring after this procedure.

    COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT NOSE SURGERY

Once he hears your concerns and goals for surgery, Dr. Mordkovich will follow different steps as he prepares you for your rhinoplasty. First, he will take a few photos of your face from each angle, as well as measurements to address imbalances and asymmetries. Using these images and facial measurements as a guide, he can explain the correction he will perform to give you the most pleasing nose shape and size. While there is no perfect guide to, Dr. Mordkovich will make adjustments that can enhance your appearance and improve your confidence. Pre and post-operative instructions are detailed at this time, and you will leave with printed instructions that you can review from the comfort and convenience of your home.
Dr. Mordkovich will give you a full examination of your tissue, cartilage and structures during your surgical consultation to let you know which approach he intends to use. He can perform both techniques under general anesthesia or IV sedation and local anesthesia. Internal dissolving sutures are placed along with nose splints to maintain complete stability during your healing process. You will be allowed to go home a short time after your surgery, barring any unforeseen complications.
Dr. Mordkovich will remove any splints and dressings approximately 10 days after your surgery. You can expect to have bruising around your eyes and nose, which could linger for a few weeks. Most of our patients are ready to return to their daily routine in about two weeks, although you should refrain from more strenuous exercise for one month to give your nose ample time to heal fully. As your nose assumes its shape over the next few months, you’ll notice a difference in the way you look and feel. At your follow-up appointment, we’ll compare photos from before the surgery to your results so you can see the full extent of your aesthetic improvement.
